A special 2005 California statehood quarter issued by the U.S. Mint is being transformed by the Franklin Mint into a special “Silver Surfer” quarter to promote the release of a summer movie and a Marvel Comics superhero.
Author: Dorothy KosichRENO, NV -
Twentieth Century Fox is using a silver collector's coin to promote the June 15 release of the move "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer."
A "Silver Surfer" U.S. quarter is being manufactured with the imagine of a Marvel Comics character The Silver Surfer, a super-strong superhero whose skin contains molecules that form a flexible silvery material.
Silver Surfer is particularly attracted to sources of high energy. He also resists high heat, is invulnerable to physical energy, and can shift himself into hyperspace. Silver Surfer's board is coated with the same silver glaze as his body, making it impervious to all forms of physical damage. The surf board also attains the speed of light.
Working in concert with the Franklin Mint, Fox will launch the Search 4 $ilver campaign by sending a fleet of silver armored trucks to deliver 40,000 "Silver Surfer" coins to cities across America. Those who find the special coins will be directed to the film's website, where they can register for a contest to win a trip to the June 12th world premiere of the Fantastic Four in London, England.
The first 400 people to register will be entered for a chance to receive one private screening of the film for their friends and family before the film debuts in all theaters. Silver Surfer and Fantastic Four fans will also be invited to visit the film's website (http://www.riskofthesilversurfer.com/) daily until June 12th to flip a virtual coin for a chance to win instant prizes.
